Utopian Corps

Not perfect.

Not imaginary.

Just the best we can build.

This is where “finding your people and purpose” gets literal. Utopian Corps is a free, decentralized network of tight-knit, four-person crews who create tiny bits of regenerative goodness everywhere we go. We radiate courage, momentum, and strength, shifting our panic-or-avoid culture one project and relationship at a time. And we become the world we want along the way.

Why “Utopian Corps?”

“Utopia” isn’t a fantasy; it’s a direction. A demand. A promise to join the millions already doing the work. It’s also not a destination, but a continuous shaping and re-shaping of our world as we shape and re-shape ourselves. Utopia is what we get when we confront our fears of oblivion, lock arms, laugh madly, and refuse.

“Corps” reminds us this is a disciplined practice, a shared commitment, and a collective path. We’re not waiting. We’re not just talking. This is action. We show up—for each other, for our communities, and for the future we know is possible. Esprit de Corps is fellowship, pride, and shared loyalty to each other and a righteous ideal.

Why Crews of Four?

The number four symbolizes stability, effectiveness, and follow-through. The vision of utopia is hugely creative, but the work itself must be done for any vision to become real. Utopian Corps is about doing the work that heals our communities and ourselves. Small teams making small improvements all over the place, leading by example.

Most folks don’t believe in humanity’s future these days. They see a species in the process of giving up. They see a bountiful home squandered by complacency and greed. Our job is to show them otherwise. So we show up on time, do the agreed-upon work, take pride in our craftsmanship, and stay humble. We help folks trust again.

A Shared Path To Paid, Purposeful Work

Utopia can’t run on privileged volunteerism alone. For it to work, we need to work, earning a dignified livelihood for our efforts. Utopia Corps starts simply, but builds as we build. Utopia won’t have Wall Street or Wal-Mart, so we’ll have to get up-skilled while still feeding our loved ones. This is the long game, and the big question: how to model a future folks choose with joy rather than shame, and how to offer the tools to join in when they’re ready?

Phase One: Practice

  • The crew begins by gathering for voluntary, simple projects they choose.

  • Members take turns leading the crew: picking the day’s project, managing logistics, and guiding discussion.

  • The focus of the Practice phase is crew trust, skill exploration, and confidence building.

  • We learn what we’re capable of—together.

Phase Two: Presence

  • The crew’s scope broadens to serve others: pro bono, barter, or pay-what-you-can.

  • Projects are local, helping neighbors, vulnerable community members, nonprofits, our own families, etc.

  • The focus of the Presence phase is crew cohesion, skill honing, and strengthening regional relationships.

  • We grow as individuals by growing our crew’s impact.

Phase Three: Prosperity

  • The crew starts seeking ethical, paid opportunities at or above living wage.

  • Time-banking, solidarity pricing, mutual aid, and coop-style income models are all welcome.

  • The focus of the Prosperity phase is crew excellence, skill mastery, and mentoring newer crews.

  • We do the work we want, with close companions, for the benefit of all.

No hierarchy among crews. No centralized control from us. We at The Climate Coaches help crews get going and are here for support along the way. But your crew is your own. All we ask is that if you use the Utopian Corps name or any meaningful amount of our branding, you honor our Vision, Mission, and and Corps Values.

Sample Work That Builds the Future

Projects should be doable, meaningful, and pointed toward a more just, sustainable world. Initial projects should be very short and simple. The practice is skill-building, teamwork, and trust, not performance or perfection. Ideally, projects will leave a tangible mark on the world, a tiny corner of it just a little better.

  • Repairing or repurposing tools, bikes, furniture, or equipment

  • Planting or prepping a garden bed, native species, or bio-swales

  • Helping a neighbor weatherize, organize, or build mutual sufficiency

  • Cooking shared meals from foraged or local ingredients

  • Designing signs, art, or online tools that tell powerful stories

  • Supporting a local teacher, elder, or activist with something they need

  • Making a space more accessible, beautiful, or welcoming

  • Building an owl house, a compost bin, or a sculpture made of “trash”

  • Clearing excess brush fuel from a fire-prone area

  • Papering City Hall with flyers demanding environmental justice for a local issue

  • Picking up rubbish from a stream, park, roadside, or parking lot

  • Plucking invasive weeds from an ecosystem struggling against them

The leader each week picks something real. It won’t be perfect. Just something that helps and doesn’t harm.

What You’ll Gain

  • A stronger sense of personal and shared purpose

  • Connection with a diverse and dedicated peer group
